The Hjørring Stone. 1972. Granite sculpture, Edgar Funch (1915-95) at Kirkepladsen
The Hjørring Stone is one of Edgar Funch's largest piece of sculpture. It consists of large heavy blocks of granite chiselled into geometric shapes varying from spheres to cubes to polygons.
The subtle variation in surface textures throughout the piece thereby reflect different forms of light giving the sculpture a living and dynamic whole.
The form of the sculpture thereby creates a contrast to its material, which will remain unchanged for hundreds of years.
