Skulpturparken Blokhus - Arts & Cultural Center With Sand Sculpture Festival

Take the family to the Sculpture Park in Blokhus and experience massive sand sculptures, Kirsty Mitchell’s outdoor special exhibition 'Wonderland,' as well as impressive sculptures made from all sorts of materials, sensory gardens, flowers, forests, and play areas.

Sand Sculpture Festival

From April 16, 2025, the Sculpture Park in Blokhus will transform into a fascinating journey through the world’s most mysterious and vibrant ecosystems – the jungles. With the theme "Jungle Animals," some of the world’s best sand sculptors will create 10 massive and intricate sand sculptures that celebrate the diverse wildlife of the rainforest. Experience interpretations of the majestic tigers from Asia’s tropical forests and the colorful parrots of South America soaring above the sculpture landscape in Blokhus. Monkeys play in the treetops, while rivers and wetlands are represented by lifelike crocodiles and turtles, and tiny poisonous frogs bring the jungle’s smallest inhabitants to life in the golden sand.

Wonderland

“Wonderland” is a sensational outdoor exhibition in the Sculpture Park's circular garden featuring Kirsty Mitchell's fantasy-for-real photographs. Discover a beautiful visual story about how deep sorrow transforms into a moving life story that leaves no one untouched. The characters are all original and not reproductions of existing stories. Everything is real, life-sized, and can take months to create by hand. The scenes are described as meditations on old fairy tale illustrations and childhood memories mixed with the artist’s adult grief and spiritual connection to nature. Mitchell creates all the costumes and props, which are then assembled like small film sets and photographed in the English landscape. Mitchell describes her process as: "Creating images that people can project their own ideas onto and lose themselves in – each one is a visual fable in itself."

The Wonderland series is a significant international touring museum exhibition, originally presented by Fotografiska, one of the world’s largest museums for contemporary photography. The exhibition received record-breaking attendance at its debut location in Stockholm and became one of the most talked-about in the museum's history.

The special exhibition can be experienced from April 16 to October 19, 2025.

World-Class Wood Art

Experience a unique artistic event when the Blokhus Wood Sculpture Festival returns on June 5, 6, and 7, 2025. The Wood Sculpture Festival offers the construction and chainsawing of impressive wood sculptures based on the theme "Jungle Animals." Sculptors create wood sculptures from meter-long oak trunks with their roaring chainsaws, and visitors are guaranteed a grand and sensory experience for the entire family.

Since 2013, the Wood Sculpture Festival has been held almost every year in the Sculpture Park. International and Danish wood sculptors have participated in creating the many wood sculptures. With large chainsaws, the artists have shaped 1-2-ton, 200-year-old oak trunks into individual sculptures based on the year’s theme over the course of 3-5 days. The wood sculptures from 2013 to the present are displayed in the Sculpture Park.

Sensory Gardens & Sculptures: The Sculpture Park is an oasis of flowers, beds, trees, and shrubs. Take a walk along the forest path and see all the unique wood sculptures. Here, you can find everything from Native Americans and princesses to dinosaurs and Fenriswolf carved in wood. See bronze and iron sculptures in the beach garden. Follow the Viking path and be overwhelmed by the past. Find sculptures of wild animals in the Bamboo Garden. Enjoy the gigantic fiber art pieces in the Circle Garden. Listen to the sound of trickling water in the lake and feel the peace from the forest. Discover all the animals hiding in the forest floor. Smell the flowers and enjoy the sight of the beautifully laid-out beds. If you’ve brought a picnic, you’ll easily find a cozy corner in the park.

Lookout Tower: Don’t miss a trip up the lookout tower. Here, you’ll get a fantastic panoramic view of the park and the artworks from a whole new perspective.

Play Areas: See-saws, swings, a giant trampoline, a large sandbox, and lots of fun games guarantee laughter and play – for both big and small.

Woof-Woof: We have space for the whole family – so feel free to bring Fido to the park. Dogs are very welcome, as long as they are on a leash.

Café Cozy: When hunger strikes, the café offers treats for the whole family.

Magical Christmas

Look forward to another enchanting and magical Christmas with sound and light shows in the Sculpture Park from November 1 to December 28, 2025. The park will be decorated according to all the Christmas art rules, with impressive light displays, and there will also be a cozy Christmas market where decorations, gifts, and treats can be purchased.

The entire park is illuminated by more than 2.5 million Christmas lights in fantastic colors and designs – including a 46-meter-long light and sound tunnel, a glowing kissing pergola, a gigantic 17.5-meter Christmas tree, Christmas sledges and reindeer, a Christmas train, illuminated snowmen and Santa Clauses, twinkling Christmas stars, a love tree with beautiful red Christmas hearts, Disney Christmas figures, harp-playing angels, and much, much more. This year's sand sculptures are also lit up with colorful Christmas lights that change colors, and the park’s other unique artworks and sculptures are beautifully merged with the unique Christmas decorations. The over 20,000 m2 Sculpture Park simply exudes genuine Christmas coziness in absolutely exceptional style.

The Sculpture Park Blokhus guarantees memorable experiences for the entire family.
